Festa Italiana Parade
150th Anniversary
It is the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy. Garibaldi was considered instrumental in making the Unification happen and is a Italian National Hero. Festa Italiana is celebrating the 150th Anniversary with having Garibaldi and his red shirts march in the Grand Parade. Festa is creating his costume along with a costume for Victor Emanuelle II, the first King of a unified Italy . Festa asked the Society if they were willing to volunteer to be the Red Shirts. We will use our banner as well.
So, we are looking for Members to join the Festa Italiana Parade this year. We need volunteers for all 4 days of Festa. The parade starts at 5:30pm each day…you can volunteer family members as well…more details as it gets closer. Festa is working on getting RAI TV (Italian TV) to do a segment on this Garibaldi march…we will be at the front of the parade.
Festa is providing an entry pass for each day you participate. We are working on getting parking passes. The Society will provide a red tshirt for each participant. We hope to get at least 20 people for each day. We realize Thursday and Friday may be difficult, but perhaps those who are retired or those who work close to downtown could fill the weekdays.
Tony Piacentini offered a challenge: if the Society gets at least 20 people on Thursday and at least 20 on Friday, he’ll buy them each a drink at the Roman Terrace Cocktail Lounge located on the 2nd floor of the Harley Stage VIP area (it’s open to the public)
We would like to have a good number by our next meeting on June 2nd. This will also give us an idea as to whether or not this can be accomplished. So please review your summer schedule and let us know which day you will be able to march as soon as you can. T-Shirt size is also required.
